President Trump on Monday appeared to dismiss a question about his aides’ alleged ties to Russia by saying he hasn’t spoken to the country in a decade.
“I haven’t called Russia in 10 years,” he told a reporter who asked him whether a special prosecutor should carry out an investigation.
Seconds earlier, he mouthed the word “no” to a gathering of health insurance executives he was meeting with at the White House.
Trump has repeatedly denied that he and his aides have had inappropriate contact with Moscow.
His latest claim follows a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who spoke with Trump by the phone on Jan. 28.
It’s customary for leaders of the two countries to speak, despite heightening geopolitical tensions.
